Make Firefox look like IE7

A lot of users like the new layout of Internet Explorer 7 but still prefer to use Firefox. I must admit myself that out of the box, IE7 looks light and fresh in comparison, but I still prefer to use Firefox. So if you're one of those users who thinks IE7 did a great job on the new interface, here's how to mimic the look in Firefox.

Internet Explorer 7 vs Firefox 2 Usability

Since writing my article on Internet Explorer 7's usability, both Microsoft and Mozilla have released their long awaited browsers to the web community. In this follow up article, we'll see how Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox 2 compare on usability, customisation and aesthetics. The point of this article is to compare the pros and cons of each browser, not to determine which is the best. Personal preference will determine which browser is better for an individual by how a browser accomplishes their tasks and adheres to their needs.

Linux Legion: Improved Linux Section

Linux Legion is a place on designLegion to share my work with the linux operating system. Offering detailed configuration information for specific systems, customising your linux GUI and much more. The section has been vastly expanded from the previous single page of information with the addition of database capabilities.

I decided to expand the section due to the email inquiries on accomplishing setups and tasks within linux. Any resolution would be hidden in my inbox and not very helpful for anybody else in there!

The most important capability is that users can can comment on sections if they wish to contribute or ask questions. A huge feature that was lacking and therefore restricting the flow of knowledge.

Full list of contents/features:

  • Comment/discussion capability
  • Search ability
  • Information for installation of linux on specific laptops
  • Customisting GUI information
  • User registration only if they would like to post information not in comment format

Internet Explorer 7 Usability and more

I recently installed Internet Explorer 7 beta (IE7) to test how it rendered DesignLegion's css and to great relief all is well. Even better, some of the 'eye candy' that rendered properly in FireFox now worked in IE7, for example, hover classes on non link tags (tr:hover, h1:hover, p:hover, etc) and dotted borders that don't appear dashed. Sadly it's not all good news...

A documentation of a developing website

That's right. This is the 3rd redesign of designLegion. As the company progresses and we define our identity, I felt a need to have a design that reflected those changes... Innovative, leading, and different while keeping readers and clients in mind. A fresh breath of air in the web design community.

WordPress 2: Blogging Nightmare

As a word of warning, if you use WordPress for your blog, refrain from upgrading to version 2.0. There are many bugs, especially with writing and posting content. I would suggest waiting until version 2.1 has been released with many of the major bugs worked out.

Flash 8 Actionscript for Satay Method - XHTML Standards

This post is in reponse to the article titled "Flash Satay: Embedding Flash while Supporting Standards" by Drew McLellan.

Problem summary...
The flash actionscript in the article is outdated for the newer Flash 8.

The Article summary...

The article describes how to use cleaner, more efficient code to embed your flash files, while keeping your xhtml valid. The "Satay Method" is used to link your flash file instead of the "Twice-Cooked Method." These two methods differ in how the browser identifies a player for the file.

EMBA Login Redesign

The Executive MBA & Executive Education (EMBA) login page has finally been launched after handing over the source files to the Fisher College of Business at the Ohio State University. The new login screen is the gateway to the new course management system at OSU, known as Carmen. What was the need for the redesign? The EMBA program at Fisher had recently been named the 13th best program in the world by BusinessWeek 2005.

Dreamweaver 8: Word Wrap

There are a lot of new coders features within Dreamweaver 8. These tools make editing code even easier but I find a select few to get in the way. The word wrap feature eliminates the need for horizontal scrolling but can make the code look unorganised and messy, making it harder to find what you are looking for.
