Last free Linuxant modem drivers

« Previous //

Linuxant is a company that provides software drivers for conexant modems and chipsets to run on linux machines. These types of modems are commonly known as ‘winmodems’ as their software is designed for use on Microsoft Windows. Linuxant at one time provided the software for free but recently they have been charging money (currently $15) for the drivers. They still provide a ‘free’ set of drivers but this limits modem speed to 14.4Kbps.

NB. These probably don’t work with kernel 2.6+ as they are becoming outdated. I do not provide support for these drivers or are responsible for any problems that occur from installation/usage.

Installation

  • change directory to where you downloaded it
  • open the terminal and type ‘tar xfvz hsfversion.tar.gz’
  • type ‘cd hsfversion’ to get into the folder
  • type ‘make install’
  • if it installs right, type and run ‘hsfconfig’ to setup the modem

Run kppp (if using KDE), setup your ISP information and dial away! If you get an ‘autoconf.h’ error it means you need to have a compiled kernel source on your system.
