Requirements

KBFX is used to change the K menu button and menu. It is needed to run parts of this theme.

Installation

KBFX Spinx menu

Obtain and install KBFX from the link above. They have precompiled packages for many disributions on the download page. Now the KBFX menu button applet needs to be added to the taskbar panel. To add the KBFX Menu to the panel, proceed as following:

  • Right-click on the panel, on which you want to place the kbfx button
  • Select “add applet to panel” in the context menu
  • Select “kbfxspinx”
  • A tooltip appears “kbfxpinx Added”
  • If you move your mouse over the button, a tooltip appears.

If you want to, you can now remove the K-Menu button and move the KBFX to the desired place on the panel. To open the menu, just click on the button.

Download and save the theme provided above (For example, save to /$HOME/themes). To install, extract the downloaded file:
# tar xfvj Prototype-v1.tar.bz2 $HOME/Desktop
Next, simply open ‘Prototype.kbfxtheme.’ The theme will install both sub styles automatically and open up the KBFX configuration panel.

Menu button image

You can skin the button in the KBFX Configurator (K Start > Control Center > Appearance & Themes > KBFX). There are three fields, where you can enter the path, where the button is saved. The first field is the field for the path to the picture for the default button state. The second field is for the picture of the button in hovered state. And the third field is for the picture of the button in pressed state. The three buttons besides each of the fields are to call a dialog, where you can browse for the pictures. The selected design can be seen in the preview area. Press the “apply” button to apply the selected look. You may have to reload.

Taskbar background

This file is the easiest to install. Save the background image to your computer (e.g. /$HOME/themes) and configure the desktop panel: K Start > Control Center > Desktop > Panels. Alternatively, you can right click the taskbar and select ‘Configure Panel.’ Both methods will lead you to the same window.

Select the ‘Appearance’ tab and under ‘Panel Background’ browse to the file.

FAQ
