KDE Theme: Foton Port

//

View the theme in action…

Requirements

DeKorator is the interface which loads each theme and currently runs in KDE only. DeKorator only skins window elements such as the title bar and borders. KBFX is used to change the K menu button and menu if desired.

Installation

Window decorations

Obtain the package for deKorator from the link above then compile and install the package. I’m sure there are some binaries for specific distributions out there if searched for.

To install the Foton window decorations, extract the file to $HOME/.kde/share/apps/deKorator/themes:
# tar xfvz Foton-dekorator-theme.tar.gz $HOME/.kde/share/apps/deKorator/themes
Now to activate the theme, go to ‘Window Decorations’ in the Control Center: K Start > Control Center > Appearance & Themes > Window Decorations and select ‘deKorator’ from the drop down list. On the ‘Theme’ tab, select the newly installed theme. You’ll notice you can also install themes in this tab via the ‘Install New Theme’ button.

Menu button image

Obtain and install KBFX from the link above. They have precompiled packages for many disributions on the download page. Download and save the Foton menu button image provided above (For example, save to /$HOME/themes).

The KBFX menu button applet needs to be added to the taskbar panel. To add the KBFX Menu to the panel, proceed as following:

  • Right-click on the panel, on which you want to place the kbfx button
  • Select “add applet to panel” in the context menu
  • Select “kbfxspinx”
  • A tooltip appears “kbfxpinx Added”
  • If you move your mouse over the button, a tooltip appears.

If you want to, you can now remove the K-Menu button and move the KBFX to the desired place on the panel. To open the menu, just click on the button.

You can skin the button in the KBFX Configurator (K Start > Control Center > Appearance & Themes > KBFX). There are three fields, where you can enter the path, where the button is saved. The first field is the field for the path to the picture for the default button state. The second field is for the picture of the button in hovered state. And the third field is for the picture of the button in pressed state. The three buttons besides each of the fields are to call a dialog, where you can browse for the pictures. The selected design can be seen in the preview area. Press the “apply” button to apply the selected look. You may have to reload.

Taskbar background

This file is the easiest to install. Save the background image to your computer (e.g. /$HOME/themes) and configure the desktop panel: K Start > Control Center > Desktop > Panels. Alternatively, you can right click the taskbar and select ‘Configure Panel.’ Both methods will lead you to the same window.

Select the ‘Appearance’ tab and under ‘Panel Background’ browse to the file.

This skin is a port (conversion) from the original windowblinds Foton theme by Omar Avelar. Images from this skin were the concept of Omar Avelar and modified by me to use in the linux environment.
